Chess game review in plain language
A good game review starts with one question: what could I try differently next time? E4 Chess Trainer lets you import a game, walk through its key moments and try the better move yourself. The coach explains moves in plain words and never shows a raw engine evaluation.
Start a review
Open the E4 web app and import a game. If you are reviewing with a child under 13, their account needs guardian consent before they can play.
Your game-review checklist
- Import: bring in the game you want to look at.
- Review: walk through its key moments. At each one, ask: what was I trying to do?
- Retry: try the better move yourself, and ask what it changes.
- Practise: pick one idea and work on it with a themed puzzle set.
Walk through the key moments
You do not need to replay every move. Go to the moments E4 marks as important and stop at any position that puzzled you. What was your plan? What else was there?
An evaluation bar with no number
The evaluation bar never shows a number. Use it as a nudge to look more closely, not as a score to memorise. The coach puts the reason into words instead, and never labels a move a blunder.
Try the better move yourself
Before you look, choose the move you would play now. Then try the better move on the board and compare the two ideas. Aim to leave with one thing to notice in your next game.
What’s free
Every game gets a plain-language review on the Free plan. It is engine-checked, but you never see engine numbers. The Free plan also includes five coach messages a month, one daily puzzle set and storage for your last 50 games on your device. Paid plans are not billed yet: everyone starts on the Free plan, and any prices you see are launch estimates.
After the review: practise one idea
Take one idea from the game, such as a fork you missed, and practise it with a themed puzzle set. Spaced review brings those puzzles back later, and progress shows as New, Learning, Practiced or Mastered rather than a points score. Your daily plan will suggest what to do next.
Is E4 right for you?
If you want a traditional analysis board full of engine evaluations, E4 is not built for that. If you would rather understand why a moment mattered, in plain words, try a review of your last game.
For parents
Children under 13 need guardian consent before they can play. There are no leaderboards, no public chat and no rating a child can fall behind on. Read the privacy policy for how data is handled.
Web now, apps coming soon
E4 works in your browser today, in English and Russian. The iOS and Android apps are coming soon.
